Ellison Bay couple builds a cultural retreat in the isolated mountains of China.
Aging is an effective catalyst for some to take that dream vacation or open that cafe or bookstore, before it's too late.

Brian and Jeanee Linden's we're-not-getting-any-younger moment yielded plans for a cultural retreat in the Dali region of southwest China's Yunnan Province.

'If we don't do it now, we're getting older and it's getting more expensive, and China is growing so quickly,' Brian said.

Japanese Kimono Show and Presentation
Linden Gallery will be alive with the arts of Japan on July 2 and 3, 2005. Over 100 kimonos and other fine arts from Japan will be on display. A special talk by Ms. Robin Cahill will be held on July 2 at 2:00 on the Truth behind Memoirs of a Geisha. Call for more details.

Central Asian Bazaar at Linden?s
The grounds outside Linden Gallery in Ellison Bay will be transformed into an exotic Central Asian shopping bazaar throughout the weekend of Friday, September 24 through Sunday, September 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. A special presentation on Afghan War Rugs by specialist Abdul Warnak (pictured with an Afghan rug prior to the event) is also scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Dianna Ashenden’s “Images of Asia” Photo Show
Linden Gallery in Ellison Bay will be the second stop in the world tour of a unique photography show, “Images of Asia,” by Singapore-based photographer Dianna Ashenden. The acclaimed show opens on Sunday, July 11 — offering the opportunity to meet the artist on that day from 12 noon to 3 p.m. — and closes on August 12.

Two Prominent Chinese Painters – Zhang Wei Jian & Chen Di – at Linden’s at June 6th Event
Linden Gallery in Ellison Bay is Hosting a welcoming event for two visiting Chinese artists this coming Saturday, June 6th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Landscape artist Zhang Wei Jian and portraitist Chen Di are also the subjects of a Linden’s show that will run in the gallery from June 6 – 19.

Afghani Tribal Art Comes to Door County
September 27, 2003 -- “Many Afghani tribesman are uneducated, so they’re unable to count wool knots as they weave a complex design,” says Abdul Wardak of his homeland’s artisan refugees. “Instead, a carpet maker often hangs a finished carpet on the wall next to his own work and visually follows the pattern.”

Opening the Kimono - An Exhibit of the Geisha
August 2003 -- An exhibit at Linden's of Ellison Bay, through August 31, helps trace the evolution of the Japanese kimono and how it moved beyond a simple word for clothing to become a process of dressing that produces, according to scholar Goldstein-Gidoni, “a cultural idiom called the Japanese woman.”

Afghani Art Expert to Speak at Linden's on Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m.
September 2003 -- Abdul Wardak, a refugee from war-torn Afghanistan now living in Chicago, has recently become one of the premier providers of superior Afghani rugs and textiles to Linden?s of Ellison Bay. The gallery, which features exotic Asian art and collectibles, will hold an exhibit of Afghani arts and crafts the weekend of September 27 and 28.

March 2003 -- Brian & Jeanee Linden have a Madison shop as well as one in Door County devoted to the arts, antiques and artifacts of China, Japan, Korea, India and Burma. The Lindens' ship came in a few weeks ago and I got a peek at its contents on a cold, snowy day.

July 4, 2003 -- Fang Xiang has injected vitality into the venerated styles of traditional Chinese painting, and his works are viewed by many critics as being "revolutionary" in the way that he boldly incorporates beautiful bright colors to his ink and water foundation.

Asian Art Gallery Succeeds for Linden's
August 14, 2003 -- Brian and Jeanee Linden took a huge risk seven years ago when they opened up their Door County art gallery. They were outside the "gallery row" that runs from Fish Creek to Sister Bay, and their new gallery would be the first in the area to feature Asian artworks.

Artist Reception for Fujiko Isomura at Linden?s
August 3, 2003 -- Fujiko Isomura?s artwork is an exploration of the relationship between the individual self and external influences. Having been raised in an Eastern society in which security largely arises from conformity, and then immigrating to the West, where the ?self? is more distinctly emphasized, Isomura says her work reveals her ongoing struggle to understand the meaning of her self within the larger context of society.

June 2003 -- ?Sandra?s use of color and light and her ability to communicate the spiritual aspect of a landscape has a lot in common with some traditional Asian artists,?
